About the Ecotourism Charter Club of CESD
The Goal and Guest List: The Ecotourism Charter Club “study tour” of CESD has two goals. One: to provide a variety of field outings that feature beautiful scenery, adventure, intellectually engaging discussions, and hands-on learning. Two: to create a talent pool of corporate leaders and other professionals who are committed to high quality sustainable travel and are willing to serve as informal advisers and supporters for CESD’s innovative programs. CESD is building the Charter Club with the aim of helping to educate key leaders about ecotourism best practices. In return, we look to Charter Club members for informal advice, expertise, and financial support. Previous Charter Club trips have been to Costa Rica, Papoose Creek/Sun Ranch in Montana, and Tiamo Resorts in the Bahamas. (See www.ecotourismcesd.org for more details).

CC Africa exemplifies best practices

CC Africa is one of the continent’s largest ecotourism companies incorporating one of Africa’s most comprehensive tour-operators. As such, we are able to offer a fully-inclusive service to our travel partners tailored to suit almost any requirement and budget.
CC Africa’s core principle is Care of the Land, Care of the Wildlife, Care of the People.
CC Africa’s ecotourism model recognizes that economic development of the areas in which we operate is crucial to the maintenance of biodiversity. We also recognize that much of Africa’s wildlife heritage and land is influenced or owned by local communities. CC Africa affords visitors the opportunity to travel to these wilderness regions and visit their resident communities, and stay at a range of exceptional lodges and thereby contribute to the sustainability of the region. A win-win situation.
Our model - successfully implemented throughout our lodges in Africa - is based on a set of operating guidelines which is overseen by a conservation manager but implemented at lodges by dedicated and accountable Green Teams made up of CC Africa staff.
Conservation Corporation Africa (CC Africa) is Africa’s leading luxury safari company and one of the most comprehensive safari operators with exceptional lodges and safaris in Africa’s most breathtaking wilderness locations.
- More than 40 world-renowned and luxurious African safari camps across 16 destinations throughout South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Botswana
- CC Africa operates exhilarating luxury safaris including Walking Safaris and Expeditions - Africa Under Canvas mobile safaris - and a unique range of Specialist Safaris
- Over 35 years of tour operating experience in planning exceptional and safe African safaris, including specialist golf and family safaris, weddings and honeymoons
Care of the land, Care of the wildlife, Care of the people.
CC Africa is dedicated to these three principles which encapsulate the vision we have for Africa. We believe that our continent’s heritage of wild places, the wildlife living there and the neighboring communities are amongst Africa’s most precious resources. We also believe that the wisest utilization of our wild places is through the development of sustainable ecotourism with reciprocal benefits – both for our guests and for the rural communities living in and alongside our rich wildlife heritage.
We aim to ensure that wildlife conservation in the 21st century is pivotal to the development of the custodians of the land - the people of Africa. At the core of this vision is our dedication to continually serve as a model in wise land management, integrating international travelers and rural communities to their mutual benefit, and demonstrating that everyone can participate in the protection of wildlife on a sustainable basis.
One of our flagship South African lodges, Phinda Private Game Reserve, is ongoing testament to CC Africa’s vision. Here we consolidated over 17 000 hectares/42 000 acres of degraded land, ravaged by decades of inappropriate cattle, pineapple, sisal and cotton farming, and restored it to its original wilderness state. More than 2 000 head of game were reintroduced, including the Big Five. And in a very short space of time, our neighbors were benefiting directly from Phinda. This was achieved through employment and community development projects implemented - in consultation with the communities - by CC Africa’s Rural Investment Fund, now an independent, non-governmental not-for-profit organization called the Africa Foundation. (See Appendix)
Phinda in a ground breaking restitution process, has handed back 23 500 acres of restored wildlife land to the ancestral owners.
Our guests play a crucial role in helping us to realize our vision for Africa. They are our future ambassadors – the link between Africa and the rest of the world. We see them as the impetus that drives our dream of advancing the green and wild frontiers of the oldest continent on earth, of helping us to be ongoing custodians of our planet’s endangered species and wild places.
We invite guests to experience Africa with CC Africa and to embrace our dream of a proud, prosperous and protected Africa.
