Itinerary
Day 1
Arrive Arusha and drive through the Rift Valley and up the rift escarpment through back country Iraqw villages to camp in the Nou Forest. This is a National Catchment forest under a co management agreement with surrounding Iraqw villages. It’s a lovely highland forest with great hiking, birding, some mammals and a chance to get acquainted with Iraqw agro- pastoralist folk.
Day 2
Arrive Nou Forest camp staying in private mobile Dorobo camps
Days 3-4
Leave the highlands of the Nou Forest and enter into the Lake Eyasi basin to camp in the Yaida valley, home of Hadza hunter gatherers. We will learn about and from the Hadza by taking natural history walks with them and visiting their bush camps. Considering all the pressures on the Hadza, their culture is amazingly intact and bushskills more than impressive. The tourism program is structured in a way that contributes towards land rights and cultural dignity and is based on long term personal relationships spanning over 40 years
Day 5
Travel back to the highlands to the Octagon Lodge, Karatu
Day 6
Game viewing in Ngorongoro Crater with a picnic lunch. In mid afternoon we will head into the Serengeti to stay at Ndutu Safari Lodge.
Day 7
Travel north across the vast Serengeti plains to camp in the Soitorgoss community wilderness area. Soitorgoss which means ‘rock passages’ in Maa belongs to three Maasai villages and is one of the most picturesque nooks in the whole Serengeti ecosystem. Here you’ll be able to explore and wildlife view by both vehicle and foot accompanied by local Maasai guides.
Day 8
Another day in Soitorgoss staying in the private mobile camp
Day 9
Return travel to Arusha
Costs are inclusive from Arusha to Arusha except for drinks at the lodges and gratuities.
